Can you eat aloe vera? 3 exciting recipes

Is it edible or not?

Perhaps you have heard again and again that aloe vera is edible. But is that really true? And if so, what is the best way to prepare it so that it does not have a toxic effect?

This is exactly what our article is about. We also have three delicious, exciting recipes that you can easily try out at home.

The right preparation:

If you want to eat the Aloe Vera plant, then the right preparation is very important, because not everything on the plant is suitable for consumption. You can eat the gel-like inner leaf of aloe vera, the so-called water reservoir (aloe vera juice), without any problems. You should be careful with the yellow secretion, which is secreted between the green leaf bark and the pith. This is bitter, slightly poisonous and causes diarrhea or stomach upset.

Tip: If you carefully peel the aloe vera leaves and then rinse off the gel with water, it is ready to eat.

Cut aloe vera

If you want to use the leaves or the inside of the leaf of aloe vera for consumption, then you should pay attention to a few things. As you have already read before, a correct preparation of the plant is very important.

  • You can carefully cut off the leaves with a sharp knife.
  • You should then briefly wash the leaves with water.
  • Then you can carefully remove the skin from the leaves so that the yellowish layer is completely removed.
  • In the end you should only have the gel-like water reservoir in your hand, which can be processed in different ways for consumption.
